Earl N. Staige

Earl Norman Staige, 84, of Goodview, MN, died Thursday, September 7, 2006 at his home. Earl was born June 18, 1922, in Minneapolis, MN to John and Charlotte (Hanson) Staige. He was a veteran of WWII in the Army Air Corps. He and Phyllis Roppe eloped on an Indian motorcycle from Mpls. to Watertown, SD, July 5, 1946. They had just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary with family and friends. The family moved to the Winona area in 1967 where they accumulated a lot of friends, horses, dogs, cats and other critters. Earl worked at Fiberite, Mec Pro and Winona Community Memorial Hospital. He was known for his dry sense of humor and enjoyed flying, fishing and taking his evening cruise on Lake Goodview with Phyllis.Earl is survived by his wife, Phyllis; two sons, John (Rose) Staige of Fountain City, WI, and Allen (Joan) Staige of Onalaska, WI; two daughters, Pat Staige and Janet (Brian) Stanton both of Rochester, MN; six grandsons, Casey Staige, Christapher Staige, Dan Staige, Mike Staige, Jason Laehn and Mike Rice; three granddaughters, Jackie Staige, Charlotte Staige and Katie Staige; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Arlene and Helen, and son, Phillip.A memorial service will be held on Sunday, September 10, 2006, at 3:00pm at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service Hansen Tribute Center (3480 Service Dr.) in Goodview, MN with the Rev. Dan Dernek officiating. Friends may call from 1:00pm until the time of service at the funeral home. Military Honors will be conducted by the American Legion of Winona.
