Dorothy McCabe

August 2, 1930 — July 10, 2017

Dorothy Mae (Brown) McCabe, 86, of Goodview died peacefully Monday, July 10, 2017 surrounded by family and holding her daughter's hand. Dorothy was born August 2, 1930 in Racine, WI to Jesse and Gladys (Eggert) Brown. She met Harold McCabe when they both worked at a foundry in Racine. They were married on June 22, 1954 and had two daughters, Susan and Nancy. They moved to Goodview in 1964.

Dorothy was a member of the First Baptist Church and volunteered at the Winona Area Humane Society and SEMCAC Senior Dining. She worked in the kitchen at Community Memorial Hospital retiring in 1985. She spent the next 10 years enjoying babysitting her grandchildren. She was the best grandma in the world and her grandchildren will never be able to thank her enough for her loving care. Dorothy loved animals and provided a loving home for countless rescued dogs and cats throughout the years. She loved people and her kindness and humor will be remembered by all who were lucky enough to have met her.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Harold on June 6, 1994. She is survived by her daughters, Susan McCabe of Battle Creek, MI; Nancy (Don) Gaulke of Winona; grandchildren Andrea (Brice Coolen) Gaulke of La Crescent; Sgt. Matthew (Jess Erdmann) Gaulke of Winona; Dr. Miranda (Hlao) Vang of Lakeville, MN; great-grandchildren Malakhi (who was the light of her life) and Baby Boy Vang who will be arriving in September; brother, William Brown of Racine Wisconsin. She is further survived by her beloved neices and nephews; many dear friends including Jean Gardner, Donna and Betsy Friesen, and Mary Pittelko; and her beloved cats, Tinker, Precious, Daisy, and Garfield. Memorials may be directed to Winona Area Humane Society, First Baptist Church, or donor's choice.

A private family service was held per Dorothy's wishes. Dorothy's family would like to thank the staff at Lake Winona Manor for their exceptional care and compassion for Dorothy and her family.
