Doris Frances Schmitz

HOUSTONDoris Frances Schmitz, 66 of Houston, died Monday, January 27, 2014 at her home.Doris was born April 7, 1947 in Winona to Cyril and Eleanor (Overing) Gora. She was united in marriage to Paul Schmitz on January 8, 1966, and although he was late to the wedding, they were together for over 40 years before he died in 2006. Whether it was gardening, fishing, hunting, or camping, they loved spending time together outdoors. Doris was great in the kitchen. Her pies and giant homemade cinnamon rolls were popular with her children. Her canned veggies and potato salad were also favorites. Because she loved cooking and socializing with friends, she worked at the restaurant in Houston for several years, which she greatly enjoyed. Doris also worked side-by-side with Paul on the farm, mostly taking care of piglets. She cherished her family and will be missed by many.Doris is survived by her four children, Rose Schmitz, Robert (Lisa Anne) Schmitz, Paul E. (Katie) Schmitz, and Valerie (Larry) Traun; six grandchildren; five step-grandchildren; five brothers; four sisters; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Paul; son, John Schmitz; and sister, Carol "Tootie" Palubicki.Funeral Mass will be held at 11am on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Houston with visitation one hour prior. Reverend Pratap Reddy will officiate.
