Doris Elaine Woodward, age 92, of Winona died Sunday, December 18 at Ave Maria Place - Callista Court.
She was born in Winona County on January 14, 1924 the daughter of Leonard and Linda (Wilkins) Strelow.
On January 28, 1942 she married Sherman A. Woodward in the parsonage of St. Matthews Lutheran Church. He preceded her in death on December 24, 2002.
She was a member of St. Matthews Evangelical Lutheran Church in Winona. She was also a member of the American Legion Axillary Post No. 9, Winona, where she was a past secretary and past president.
Doris graduated from Winona Senior High School in 1941 and then the Winona Vocational Technical School with a secretarial degree. She farmed alongside her husband for many years before they moved into Winona in 1963. She worked at NECO Ordinance and the Winona Vocational Technical School, before taking a position as an Accounts Payable Clerk at St. Mary's University of Minnesota where she worked for 16 years before retiring in 1987.
Among the many things she especially enjoyed were camping, gardening, sewing, crocheting, embroidery, knitting, genealogy, and her book club. She and Sherman also enjoyed traveling in their RV with their two dogs for a few years - seeing many beautiful places around the country. Later before moving to Callista Court, she enjoyed her daily coffee club that met at Hardy's in Winona.
She is survived by her children, Sherman C. (Carol) Woodward of Minnesota City, MN, Gerald (Kathy) Woodward of Fort Collins, CO, Judi Woodward of St. Paul, MN, Lynn (Timothy) Rockwell of Winona; grandchildren, Sherri (Rick) Bollin, James Woodward, Lisa (Scott) Ledebuhr, Brian Woodward, Heather Woodward, Lonnie Schafer, Ron Schafer, Shannon Johnson, Tanya (Chad) Carlson, Matthew Rockwell, Taylor Rockwell; 14 great-grandchildren; 6 great great-grandchildren; brother, Allan Strelow, Rochester, MN; and many, many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers and one sister.
Funeral services for Doris will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 22 at St. Matthew's Evangelical Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Matthew Schoell and Rev. Karl Gurgel
officiating. Interment will follow at Scotch Cemetery, Fremont, MN.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, December 21 at Hoff Celebration of Life Center, Goodview and then from 10 to 11am Thursday at the church.
Casket bearers are grandsons, James Woodward, Lonnie Schafer, Ron Schafer, Shannon Johnson, Brian Woodward and Matthew Rockwell, and grandson-in-laws, Rick Bollin and Scott Ledebuhr.
