The funeral service for Donald A. Schultz, 98, of St. Charles, will be at 11 a.m Tuesday, November 27, at St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church in St. Charles, with the Rev. Samuel Morsching officiating. Burial will take place at Hillside Cemetery in St. Charles at a later date.
Mr. Schultz, died on Monday, November 19, 2018 of natural causes in home hospice care with his family gathered at his side.
Donald A. Schultz was born on September 16, 1920 in Plainview, Mn, to Edward and Ida (Boehlke) Schultz. He grew up on the family farm east of Plainview and attended Plainview High School graduating in 1938. Along with his two brothers and two sisters, he helped work the family farm until the outbreak of hostilities of WWII and enlisted in the US Army in 1942. As part of the 437th Ordinance Motor Vehicle Assembly Company, he was stationed in England from 1942-1946.
Don was married on Apr. 26, 1946 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Elgin to Jean Virginia Boie. The couple lived in Kellogg where Don began his long career as an International Harvester farm equipment dealer before relocating family and business in 1953 to St. Charles. He retired in 1989 after 43 years of serving the area farming communities. Jean was a homemaker and worked at Mayo Clinic statistics department prior to their marriage.
He was a member of St. Matthew Evangelical Lutheran Church and served on the building committee and was a member of the American Legion post in St. Charles.
Don was a very loving and giving man who loved his family, his Christian faith, and his country. He loved the music of his faith and did much to support St. Matthew's Church in their Christian mission and service to humankind.
Don enjoyed time with his growing family boating on the Mississippi River, working in his home shop repairing items and making home improvements as well as traveling around Europe and North America with Jean and wintering in TX and AZ. Don and Jean enjoyed biking, and hiking especially in Whitewater State Park, visiting with friends and valued time spent with family, especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also enjoyed gardening and landscaping at his home.
Don is survived by his wife Jean; three daughters and one son, Edward (Rita) of St. Charles, Jane (John) Cavanaugh of Maplewood, MN, Carol (Stewart) Miller of San Rafael, CA, and Susan Woodbury of Cornucopia, WI.; 2 grandchildren, Chad (Amanda) Schultz, Sarah Schultz and 2 great-grandchildren, Dane Wiskow and Madison Schultz.
Don leaves behind many nieces and nephews and good friends. The family is grateful for Dr. Freuhling's care at Mayo and Season's Hospice for their care and tender mercies in his last days.
Don was preceded in death by his parents, brothers William and Robert, and sisters Dorothy Affeldt and LeEtta Nietz.
A time of visitation for family and friends will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 26 at Hoff Funeral Home in St. Charles and one hour before the 11 a.m. service Tuesday at the church.
