HOUSTON, MINN. - Donald "Donnie" G Tweten, 73, of Houston, died Monday, January 2, 2006, at Gundersen - Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse, Wis. He was born on February 14, 1932, in LaCrosse, Wis. to Selmer and Ruth (Halvorson) Tweten Sr. He was raised in Houston and graduated from Houston High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Navy for four years. Donnie worked as an auto mechanic in Houston for Sidney Johnson at the Chevrolet Garage and for Leonard Tracy at the Ford Garage and also for the I.G. Iverson Lumber Yard in Houston.He was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston, the Arnet - Sheldon American Legion Post in Houston of which he had been Commander, The Rushford V.F.W. and the Houston Fire Department. Donnie's Interests included deer hunting, fishing, woodworking and gardening. His grandchildren where his pride and joy. Donnie is survived by his wife, Kay; mother, Ruth Tweten of Rushford, Minn.; three daughters: Kim (Dave) Thill of Winona, Minn., Karla (Jim) Edwards of Houston, Minn. and Kendra (Bob) Budnick of Minnesota City, Minn.; six grandchildren: Kayla, Eric, Karwyn, Bradley, Blake and Trent; two brothers: Selmer (Sharon) Tweten, Jr. of Caledonia, Minn. and Robert (Carol) Tweten of Byron, Minn.; one sister, Ruby (Herb) Highum of Rushford, Minn.; and one sister-in-law, Nancy Tweten of LaCrosse, Wis. He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Jerome Tweten. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston, Minn. with the Rev. Lane Zaffke officiating. Burial will be in the Money Creek Cemetery in Money Creek, Minn. with military honors by the Arnet Sheldon American Legion Post. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, at Hoff Funeral Homes - Houston Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church.
