Don J. Campbell, 84, of St. Charles died Wednesday December 13, 2006 at Whitewater Healthcare Center in St. Charles. Don was born May 19, 1922 at Clyde to Edward and Jessie (Buffan) Campbell. He graduated from St. Charles High School in 1940. Don served in the Air Force during WWII serving as a radio operator in the South Pacific. On October 26, 1946 he and Mildred Piske were married. They made their home in St. Charles where he worked for a year at the St. Charles Condensing Plant. In 1947 he went to work at First National Bank of St. Charles as a bookkeeper. He later became vice president before serving as president for the last 19 of his 35 years at the bank. Don was a longtime member of the St. Charles American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was a member and former treasurer of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Winona County Fair Board and the St. Charles Chamber of Commerce. Don enjoyed spending time with his family, camping, traveling and trips in his RV. Survivors include his wife Mildred, a son Steven (Sylvia) Campbell of Mounds View, two grandchildren Megan Campbell (Andrew Monson) and David Campbell and a sister Adelaide Waby of Rochester. He was preceded in death by two sisters Annath Zaudke and May Miller and a brother John Campbell. Funeral Services will be 2PM Sunday at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in St. Charles with the Rev. Michael Hart officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery with military graveside honors conducted by the St. Charles American Legion and VFW. Friends may call from 3-7 PM Saturday at Hoff Funeral Home's - St. Charles Chapel. They may also call one hour before services Sunday at the church.
