Dolores Effie Fischer, of Zumbrota, MN, and formerly of St. Charles, MN passed away on Tuesday, May 22, 2007 at the Zumbrota Care Center where she had resided for the past 1 1/2 years. Dolores (Dixon) Fischer was born on February 14, 1918 to Henry and Della (Allhiser) Dixon at the farm home in Elmira Township, Olmsted County, a mile or so from Saratoga, Winona County. She attended 1st-8th grades at the Saratoga School and then St. Charles High School graduating in 1935. She attended Teacher's Training for 1 year. After graduating from Teacher's Training she went on to teach in country schools for 3 years--in Little Valley, Plainview area and her home district--the Cravath District. She married Walter Fischer on June 7, 1939. She and her husband farmed for 38 years before retiring and moving into St. Charles, MN in 1977. In April of 1998 they moved into Halter Heights Apartments. Walter passed away 2 months short of their celebrating their 60th Wedding Anniversary in 1999. Dolores then stayed in St. Charles before moving to Zumbrota in 2001. She was a member of the Elmira EUB Church after she transferred her membership to the St. Charles United Methodist Church. She was active in the United Methodist Women serving as President and Treasurer, taught Sunday school, released time classes, as well as Vacation Bible School. Upon moving to Zumbrota, her membership was transferred to the Zumbrota Wesleyan Church. Dolores loved to read as well as writing letters and sending cards. Her faith, family, and friends were of the greatest importance to her. She is survived by 5 children: Joyce (Jerry) Newton, Riceville, Iowa; Lyman (Marlee) Fischer, Portland, Oregon; Gordon (Mary) Fischer, Marshfileld, Wisconsin; Howard Fischer, Lake City, Minnesota; and Rev. Janet Fischer, Zumbrota, Minnesota; 9 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, and brother, Bernard, San Diego, California. She was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter-in-law, June, a great-grandson, Richard, and sister, Halycon. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Friday, May 25th at the Zumbrota Wesleyan Church with the funeral service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 26th at the church. Rev. Ronald C. McClung will officiate. Memorials are suggested to either the Zumbrota Wesleyan Church or the American Cancer Society. Hoff Funeral Home, St. Charles is in charge of the arrangements.
