HOFF FUNERAL AND CREMATION SERVICE - HOUSTON, MINN. 507-896-3127 HOUSTON, MINN. - Dianne Faye Poppe, age 59, passed away on Monday, December 5, 2011, when she lost her valiant and courageous battle with ovarian cancer. Dianne was born on March 30, 1952, during the height of the Houston (MN) flood. Her childhood was spent on the Poppe Turkey Farm, just west of Houston. She attended and graduated from Houston Public Schools, and Winona Technical Institute. Although she lived elsewhere for brief periods of time, Houston was always her home. Dianne was a well-known member of the Houston community. As "Miss Poppe", she was familiar to families throughout the school district. She spent decades collecting lunch money, supervising playground activities, and being the go-to person in the elementary school office where she knew every child by name. After hours, she was affectionately known as "Sarge" where she served the patrons of the Houston American Legion Club. Every summer she looked forward to traveling throughout the area to distribute Houston Hoedown posters. Dianne lived her life with gusto and an exceptionally positive attitude. To those who knew her, Dianne's smile was memorable, with dimples in her cheeks and a twinkle in her eye. She was always prepared for special occasions (birthdays, holidays, anniversaries) with gifts for all of her loved ones. She had a knack for finding the perfect gift and always enjoyed a good sale. Dianne was preceded in death by her dad, Vincent Poppe. She is survived by her mom, Marjorie (Thronson) Poppe and the other Thronson girls, Audrey Engrav, Lylah Cruze and Norma Muenkel. Dianne will be missed by sisters, Sharon (Joel) Schulze, Jeanne Poppe (Bob Vilt), Sandra (Kevin) Dixon and brother, Chuck (Diana) Poppe. She will be fondly remembered by her nieces and nephews, their families, and her numerous friends. Funeral service will be at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 10, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston, with the Rev. Lane Zaffke officiating. Burial will be in the Stone Church Cemetery in Houston. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service in Houston and one hour prior to the service on Saturday at the church. In Lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to be directed to the Dianne Poppe Houston Hurricane Foundation or to Cross of Christ Lutheran Church.
