"Gunner" VanGundy, 58, of Houston, died on Wednesday, November 18, 2009, at Gundersen - Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse, Wis. Gunner was born on March 11, 1951, in LaCrosse, Wis. to Harold and Dolores (Peterson) VanGundy. He graduated from Houston High School in 1969. While in high school Gunner excelled in wrestling, football, and baseball. He was named the Houston High School Athlete of the Year in his senior year. Gunner attended Winona State University for one year. He married Janet Moberly, Janet died on 1984. On February 4th of this year Gunner married his long-time companion, Cindy Tower. Gunner worked at John Deere in Waterloo, Iowa for 17 years. He had worked for Chart Industries in LaCrosse, Wis. for the past twenty years, where he worked as a Senior Supervisor. Gunner was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston. He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and was an avid Minnesota Viking's fan. Gunner is survived by his wife, Cindy; parents: Harold and Dolores VanGundy of Houston; a step-son, Clay Brown of Caledonia, Minn.; a grandson, Deven; one brother, Steve (Kendra) VanGundy of Houston; three sisters: Dianne (Tim) Orr of Houston, Cheryl (Hoyt) Zenke of Caledonia, Minn., and Shelly (Dwayne) Johnson of LaCrescent, Minn.; and by many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janet; Daughter, Sara; and Brother, Gary. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 23, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with the Rev. Louise Stromberg officiating. Burial will be in the Stone Church Cemetery in Houston. Friends may call from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, at Hoff Funeral Homes - Houston Chapel, and one hour prior to the service on Monday at the church.
