Dennis "Dennie" Berland

Dennis (Dennie) Berland, 73, of Rushford, MN lost his long battle with Parkinson’s Disease on November 24, 2024 at Good Shepherd Care Center in Rushford, MN.

 Dennie was born on December 31, 1950 in Lanesboro, MN to parents Alfred and Dorothy (Peterson) Berland. Dennie grew up on the family farm north of Peterson, MN and graduated from Peterson High School in 1969. He was a life-long, baptized, and confirmed member of North Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Lanesboro, MN.

Dennie was a reliable farm hand and never complained about hard work. He worked for several local farmers before starting a long career with Riverside Integrated Solutions working at plants in Rushford, Lewiston, and Winona. He faithfully worked full time until his retirement in April, 2023.

Dennie enthusiastically showed Guernsey dairy cattle at the Fillmore County Fair and Minnesota State Fair during his years in 4-H and time on the farm. His main hobby and source of enjoyment in life was sports. He participated in sports in high school and was an avid, life-long fan of the Twins, Vikings, and Gophers. He was most passionate, however, about local high school sports. There was no bigger fan of the Peterson Tigers and later Rushford/Peterson Trojans than Dennie. He attended thousands of football, basketball, volleyball, softball, and baseball games, girls and boys, home and away, over the years. He enjoyed every minute of those games except for the few after a loss. But, it didn’t take long before he was thinking about the next game and the prospects for a win. He was loyal and optimistic right up to the end.

Dennie is survived by his brother Steve (Debra) Berland of Rochester, MN and his nephew Charlie Berland of Minneapolis, MN. He was preceded in death by his father and mother.

Steve, Debra, and Charlie would like to thank everyone who befriended and helped Dennie over the years. To Dennie, you were more than friends, you were family.

A memorial service for Dennie will be held on Friday, November 29, 2024, at 11:00am at North Prairie Lutheran Church, rural Lanesboro, MN with the Rev. Sarah Walker Brown officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be at North Prairie Lutheran Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred in Dennie’s name to the Rushford-Peterson High School (RPHS) Athletic/Scholarship Fund.
