Delwin John Tschumper, 79, of Winona, died peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 7, 2012 in the loving care of his family, just days before his 80th birthday. Del was born March 9, 1932 to Allen and Grace (Church) Tschumper at Winona General Hospital. He attended District 29 (Minnesota City) grade school through eighth grade and graduated from Winona Senior High School in 1950. In March of 1951, Delwin enlisted in the United States Navy and served four years during the Korean Conflict. He attended Winona State University beginning in 1955 and graduated with honors in 1959 with a degree in Business Administration. After graduating from college, his business career included employment with The Trane Company in La Crosse, WI and in Lexington, KY. In 1974, Del and his family returned to Winona where he was the Controller for the Badger Division of Warner & Swasey (later Badger Equipment Company). He worked 2 years at Winona Printing before retiring in 1998 and part time at Winona Manufacturing after retirement. In 1957, Del married Sherrie Leininger of Winona. Together, they raised a family of four sons. His love for his wife and sons was always expressed verbally as "I love you". Delwin was a great role model for his sons and exemplified what it means to be a compassionate and loving husband and father. Over the years Delwin was like a second father to many young men and women whom he wisely counseled and cared for. He was a member of Pleasant Valley Evangelical Free Church. Delwin is survived by four sons, Patrick of Washington D.C., James (Betsy) of Rollingstone, Timothy of Winona and Thomas (Lynette) of Cedar Valley; seven grandchildren, Sean, Lucas, Bryce, Jordan, Kinsey, Austin and Katie; brothers, Argene (Beverly), Byrle, and Keith (Carol); and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Sherrie in May 2011; his parents; sister, Grace Tschumper and brother, Dwayne Tschumper.Delwin's family would like to thank Winona Health and Area Hospice Services, the Gundersen Clinic and especially Dr. David Momont and Dr. Ronald Go for the care and support they provided.A visitation will be held from 1-5pm on Sunday, March 11, 2012 at Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service-Hansen Goodview Chapel and also one hour prior to the service at the church. Del's funeral service will be at 11am, Monday, March 12, 2012 at Pleasant Valley Evangelical Free Church in Winona with Pastor Joe McConkey officiating.
