Delbert Hendershot, 73, of Stewartville died unexpectedly at his home. Delbert was born in Pierre, S.D. June 1, 1944 to Glenn and Almina (Clement) Hendershot. They later moved to Rochester. He entered the Army at the age of 16, serving for 21 years. Delbert had two tours of duty in Viet Nam. Was stationed in Korea and in Manheim and Stuttgart, Germany, as well as Fort Hood. Delbert married Jacqueline Connaughty on October 19, 1963. Following his discharge from the Army in 1983 they returned home and purchased Hendershot Guest Home in downtown Rochester. In 1991 they purchased Bob's Trailer Park on Marion Road. They sold Hendershot Guest Home in 1999. Delbert and Jaqueline moved to Stewartville in 2016 and sold their trailer park in February 2017. He took pride in caring for his mother Almina many years until her recent death.
Delbert was a hard worker. He had a great love for his two 1957 Chevy's and enjoyed traveling to car shows, often winning top honors. His garage workshop was immaculate. He enjoyed making bird houses, flower planters, and other wood working projects in his shop.
Delbert is survived by his wife Jacqueline, one son John (Tanya) Hendershot. Two daughters Carla (Chad) Swiridow and their family Anthony, Olivia and Gracie and Brenda (Mark) Scott and their family Taylor and Lauren. Also by a brother, Lonney (Connie) Hendershot of Llano, TX. and many other family members. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Hoff Funeral Service in St. Charles, led by funeral celebrant Dianne Rislow. Friends may call from 3-6 p.m. Sunday and 10 - 11 a.m. Monday at the funeral home. A reception will follow before burial at Minnesota State Cemetery in Preston, with military graveside honors.
