Dean Ellsworth Norvet, 90 of St. Charles, died peacefully Wednesday, April 25, 2018 at his home.
Dean was born October 6, 1927 in Albert Lea to Norwegian immigrants, Severin and Marie (Olson) Norvet, the youngest of four children.
The family moved to rural St. Charles where Dean attended country school and was taught by his oldest sister, Helen. He attended St. Charles High School and excelled in both football and baseball, graduating in 1945. Dean was drafted into the United States Army in 1946 and was stationed in South Korea. Following his discharge in 1947, he came back to St. Charles and worked various jobs including construction, Searcy Sales, and Russ Renfro at Home Produce.
On October 14, 1950, Dean married Beverly Connaughty at North Prairie Church in rural Lanesboro; making their home in St. Charles where they raised four children. In 1965, Dean bought the meat locker and butcher shop in St. Charles, naming it Dean's Locker. He retired and sold the business in 1985.
He was a member of Faith Lutheran Church, a volunteer fireman for 20 years, 50-year member of the St. Charles Moose Lodge, VFW and American Legion.
Dean is survived by his wife, Beverly of 67 years; children, Steve (Carol) Norvet of Rochester, Lynn (Dan) Kingsley of St. Charles, Debra (Mike) Steven of Cave Creek, AZ and Brian (Rose) Norvet of Red Wing; five grandchildren, Jenny (Dan) Erickson, Cayla (Ben) Bowen, Eric Norvet, Lexi Norvet, Kara Norvet; five great-grandchildren, Grace, Tyler & Karina Erickson and Anthony & Brynna Bowen and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Helen Small and Margaret Sedgwick; and one brother, Sylvian Norvet.
Dean will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He was known for his firm handshake, wit, smile, laughter and ability to joke and pull pranks on anyone.
Memorial Service will be 11 a.m., Tuesday, May 1, 2018 at Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service - St. Charles with the Reverend Steve McGinley officiating. Visitation will be 9 a.m. until the time of the service. Military Honors will be provided by the American Legion Hugh Watson Post 190 and the VFW Post 5630. He will be laid to rest at Hillside Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association or St. Charles Academic Excellence.
