David Phillip Meyer

December 10, 1932 — December 29, 2015

On the morning of Tuesday, December 29, 2015, David Meyer passed away at home with his family at his  side after a short illness.

David Phillip Meyer was born December 10, 1932 in Lanesboro, Minnesota to Alfred and Winnie (Hall) Meyer.  David grew up in rural Fountain and graduated from Lanesboro High School in 1951.  Following high school David attended the University of Minnesota Agriculture program for 1 year.  He then enlisted in the Navy from 1953-1957 where he served on the USS Columbus in the operation intelligence division.  After his Navy service David began his career in farming in 1957.  He had a beef and dairy herd, milking cows from 1965-1997.  David retired from farming in 2007 but continued his love for agriculture.

On October 3, 1965 David married Diane Towne of Guthrie Center, Iowa.  They were married 49 years before Diane’s passing in November 2014.  David and Diane raised three children on their family farm.

David enjoyed his life as a farmer, fishing, attending auction sales, and spending time with his family.  He was a past Farm Bureau member, Land O Lakes board member, and a member of the Root Prairie Lutheran Church where he attended his entire life.

David is survived by three children Denise (Jay) Wheelock of Fountain, Dan Meyer (Dorothy Peterson) of St. Louis Park, Danae (Josh) Forman of La Crescent MN; and two grandchildren, Beck Forman, & Alex Wheelock.
David was preceded in death by his wife Diane and his parents Alfred and Winnie Meyer.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, January 2, 2016 at Root Prairie Lutheran Church, with Pastor Karla Kirkeby officiating.

Visitation will be held from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM on Friday, January 1, 2016 at Riley Funeral Home in Chatfield, and one hour before the service at the church.  Burial will be at Root Prairie Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to Seasons Hospice Home Care or Root Prairie Lutheran Church.
