David L. Gross, 71 of Winona, died Wednesday, July 3, 2013 at his home surrounded by his family after a courageous one year battle with prostate cancer, through which he never once complained. Dave was born August 2, 1941 in Pickwick to A. Otis and Merle (Harvey) Gross. He grew up in Pickwick and then attended mechanic training in Rochester. Dave married Karen Kiekbusch on September 22, 1973 in Winona. They were later divorced but remained good friends. He worked for Borkowski Towing and Praxel/AmCare Ambulance as a mechanic and dispatcher. He loved hunting, fishing, NASCAR, dirt track racing and classic country music. Dave was a very hard working, tough, honorable, humble man who would help anyone in need. His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his pride and joy. He was a wonderful role model, gave everyone nicknames and always had a deer hunting story to tell. He is survived by his three children, Becky (David) Rayfield, Mark Huebner and Terry Huebner; grandchildren, Livia & Carson Rayfield, Jesse (Gabrielle) & Cole Huebner, Ashley (Hosea) Hall, Tyler, Bailey and Collin Huebner; great grandchildren, Amarion, Aaliyah, Mason & McKenna; former wife, Karen(Paul) Nelton; sister, Arlis Ellinghuysen; brother, James Gross and many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Dave is also survived by his furry companions, his dog, Ruby and cat, Scooter.Dave was preceded in death by his parents and brothers-in-law, Ed Ellinghuysen and Dick Thill. Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Monday, July 8, 2013 at Hoff Celebration of Life Center in Goodview with Funeral Celebrant John Wagenaar officiating. Visitation will be 2 - 5 p.m., Sunday at Hoff Celebration of Life Center and one hour prior to the service on Monday.
