Darwin Morrill

Darwin Morrill, 93, of St. Charles, MN, died Saturday, April 18, 2015. The funeral will be Thursday, April 23, at the United Methodist Church of St. Charles at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Hillside Cemetery.Mr. Morrill was born in St. Charles on December 10, 1921, at his home and attended school there until his graduation in 1939. In 1938, he and his father, Archie Morrill, bought their first construction equipment and went into business, and in 1942 he married Lorraine Fugleberg in Rochester. They were married for 69 years, living most of them in St. Charles with the exception of 4+ years when he worked at Midcontinent and Northwest Airlines at Wold Chamberlain Airport, followed by working as crew chief of the flight line at Holman Field, St. Paul, for the B-24 and B-25 WWII airplane modifications. During this time, he took special courses at Oak Street Lab at the University of Minnesota. After returning to St. Charles in 1947, Darwin returned to partnership with his father at "Morrill and Son," doing excavating and contracting until he semi-retired in 1982. Darwin belonged to the Oddfellows Lodge, the Masonic Lodge, was Justice of the Peace, on the Hillside Cemetery Board for 25 years, and a Trustee of the United Methodist Church for many years where, until his death, he was the oldest member. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling, wintering in Arizona, and hiking, doing the Grand Canyon trek three times, the last time at age 75.Mr. Morrill is survived by his daughter Lana (John) Ostermaier of Orange, TX, and son David (Marcia) Morrill of Rochester, MN; three grandchildren, Jeremy Martin of Orange, TX, Mical (Jon) Peterson of Richfield, and Dana (Joshua) Asleson of Rochester; and five great-grandchildren, Zoe Martin, Norah and Oscar Peterson, and Audrey and Emmett Asleson. In addition to his parents Archie and Pearl Morrill, he was preceded in death by his wife Lorraine and one grandson, James "Jamie" Martin.Friends may call from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 22, at Hoff Funeral Home St. Charles and one hour before the service at the church.
