Daniel Howard Schultz

Daniel “Coonie” Howard Schultz was born on August 8, 1936. He passed away peacefully, at home surrounded by his family’s love on Saturday, August 17, 2024.

Daniel was born and raised on the family farm in Winona County. He graduated from Lewiston High School. Then he honorably served in the US Army (Vietnam Era Veteran).

Dan was one of the founders of The Pork Masters Chefs, he also was a volunteer firefighter for the Minnesota City Fire Department. While serving, he went into a burning house and carried a woman out to safety.

Dan also served on The Lewiston Fire Department, retiring after 20 years of service.

Dan also retired from Lake Center, now known as TRW, after 40 years.

He was a lifelong member of the Lewiston Sportsman Club and the Legion.

He was an avid Minnesota Twins and Vikings fan.

He also enjoyed hunting, fishing (Canadian fly in trip), playing cards and Farkle, watching western movies, reading, doing wood working in his garage and doing some traveling, plus spending time up north at the cabin.

Dan married Ellen Mohan in 1959, they had five children and later divorced. He married Lorraine Roach in 1998.

He is survived by wife, Lorraine; children, Anthony, Mark (Daun), Daniel Jr. (Karen), Timothy (Stacy), Sandra (Craig) Pahlen, and Sheril Speltz; brothers, Richard Schultz; sisters, Judy (John) Randall, and Dorothy (Dean) Nuzzlock; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Jean Schultz, and Marlene Schultz.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, one sister-in-law, one sister, Betty Barber, four step-children, and one step-grandson.

He also enjoyed spending time with his extended family, Randy and Judy Pahl and his best companion, Harley.

A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at 11am at Our Savior’s Moravian Church (37 Chapel Dr NW, Altura, MN) with visitation beginning at 10am. Visitation will also be held on Tuesday, August 20, 2024, 4pm-7pm at Hoff Funeral Home (90 Rice St. Lewiston, MN). Daniel will be laid to rest at Bethany Moravian Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Winona Area Hospice or Our Savior’s Moravian Church.
