Daniel Glasspoole

Daniel L. Glasspoole, 81, of Winona, passed away on Monday, September 23, 2024, after a lengthy battle of cancer, at his home with family by his side.

He was born on June 4, 1943, to Wendell and Catherine (Weirlein) Glasspoole in Mondovi, WI. He graduated from St. Felix High School in Wabasha, MN in 1961. He also graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in civil engineering and Indiana University with an MBA. During his career, he lived and worked in 15 different states and New Zealand where he worked on large industrial construction projects before returning to this area completing his career at Schwab company in Winona.

On July 2, 1966, he married Leslie Myers. Together they had two sons, Peter and Paul. They divorced in 1991. He married Lois (McElmury) Anderson at St. Casimir’s in Winona on January 2, 1993. Together, their blended family had four sons including Jeff and Curt Anderson.

Some of the highlights of Dan’s career in the Winona area that he was project manager of include Minnesota Marine Art Museum construction; the remodeling of Winona Health; the extensive renovations of the Cotter School campus, and renovating five dams on the Mississippi from Minneiska, MN to Genoa, WI.

In retirement, he volunteered at Winona Health and was on the maintenance committee at the combined parishes of St Casimir’s and the Cathedral. He also did Perpetual Adoration. He thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family on the river at Polywog Farm across the river from Winona. He was a devout Viking’s fan, puzzle and crossword aficionado, and was truly enthusiastic about history. He looked forward to reading historical markers and committing facts to memory which he could later recite on-demand.

Of all the things that Dan will be remembered for, his humility and generosity are at the top of the list. Helping other people was the center of his life. Whether it was through the contributions of his career or an open wallet to those in need, he never sought recognition or praise. The kindness he showed to those around him could be felt by all who had been blessed to know him. He truly lived a life of giving.

Dan was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, and aunts, uncles, and most of his cousins.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lois; his four sons: Jeff Anderson of Dallas, TX, Peter Glasspoole of Minneiska, MN, Paul (Kari) Glasspoole of Frederick, CO, and Curt (Amy) Anderson of Mantorville, MN: his seven grandchildren, Carrissa(Cole), Jenna (Chris), Zach (Tania), Nic (Kjersten), Lindsey, Makayla Anderson and Victoria Glasspoole and soon a great granddaughter to be.

Pallbearers will be his four sons and two grandsons.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Food for the Poor, Immaculate Heart of Mary Seminary, or any charity of your choice.
