Daniel Edward Bruss, 68 of Winona, died Monday, June 26, 2017 at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, surrounded by his family.
Dan was born November 4, 1948 in Winona to Jerry and H. Jean (Atkinson) Bruss. He attended Winona Senior High School. Dan served his country honorably in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. Shortly after his discharge from the Army, he was set up on a blind date with Bonnie Eaton. It was love at first sight and they were soon married on April 10, 1971. He worked for Inmann Construction until 1997. He then partnered with Scott Rolbiecki and started Rolbiecki & Bruss Construction where he worked until his retirement.
Dan was an avid outdoorsman - hunting, fishing, camping and gardening were some of his favorites. He also enjoyed canning, tinkering, small engines, solving problems and Sunday breakfast at the Midway and EB's Corner.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie of 46 years; two children, Amy (Trinity) Mock of Blair, WI and Clayton (Jackie) Bruss of Goodview; five grandchildren, Lilly, Lydia, Marshal, Alec and Veronica; two brothers, Jerry (Carla) Bruss and Steve Bruss; sister, Cindy Prudham; sister-in-law, Lisa Larson and many nieces, nephews and friends.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Mike Bruss and brother-in-law, Jim Prudham.
A Celebration of Dan's life will take place at 5 p.m., Thursday, June 29, 2017 at Hoff Celebration of Life Center in Goodview, led by Matt Horton. Full Military Honors will immediately follow the service, performed by the VFW Post 1290. Visitation will take place from 3 p.m. until the time of the service. Dan will be laid to rest at MN State Veterans Cemetery - Preston. Everyone is encouraged to dress casually.
