Curtis Greethurst, 83, a former area resident, died Friday April 14that the Minneapolis VA home. Curtis was born January 13, 1923 in Cass County, Minnesota to Charles and Hattie Greethurst. He grew up on his father's farm in Fremont, near Lewiston, MN. At the beginning of World War II he enlisted and served in the Air Force, receiving an honorable discharge. He later moved to South Bend, IN. There he met and married Marjorie White in 1966. Curtis retired fro Bethlehem Steel, Burns Harbor Plant in 1986. He was a member of United Steelworkers Local #6787 and the American Legion. Following his wife's death, Curtis moved to his native Minnesota where he lived in St. Charles until entering the VA Home in Hastings in 1996. He later transferred to the VA facility in Minneapolis. Curtis will be greatly missed by his family and friends. He loved to spend his evenings with friend's playing cards. He was also an avid fisherman, pool player and traveler. Curtis is survived by one daughter, Roxie Gould of Chesterton, IN, nieces and nephews; Shirley Burgess (Claude) of Sacramento, CA, Donald Holm of Boulder, CO, Roger Holm (Deb) of Holdingford, MN, Brian Holm (Shari) of Utica, MN, a brother-in-law Kenneth Holm of Utica, MN and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his beloved wife Marjorie, he was preceded in death by a sister Lorna Holm and his parents. Services will be 2PM Wednesday at Hoff Funeral Home' - St. Charles Chapel with the Rev. Tim Gerarden officiating. Burial will be at a later date in Saratoga Cemetery in rural St. Charles. Friends may call at the funeral home from 6-8 PM Tuesday and one hour before services Wednesday. In Lieu of flowers a donation to the American Cancer Society would be appreciated.
