Conrad George Stark

St. Charles Conrad "Connie" George Stark, 90, of St. Charles and formerly of Altura, died Saturday, August 31, 2013 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Connie was born July 19, 1923 in Altura to Albert and Minnie (Glende) Stark. He attended school in Altura through the 8th grade, and then worked for local farmers. In 1947 Connie began working for Kalmes Hardware of Altura, hauling gas and repairing appliances and furnaces. He took night classes to become an electrician, achieving his journeyman and later master electrician licenses. Connie and Alice Mielke were married November 3, 1954. The couple built their first home in Altura as they worked and studied together. As their family grew they built a second home on Main Street in Altura. Connie opened Stark Electric, serving area farmers as well as Rex, Hubbard and Simmons turkey plants for 42 years. In 1992 they moved to Minnieska, where they enjoyed living near the river. In 2007 they moved to St. Charles. Connie and Alice enjoyed their many trips, including; Hawaii, Portugal, Mexico and the Canary Islands with electrician groups as well as family trips to Niagra Falls and the 1967 World Expo in Montreal. Connie and Alice are members of Our Savior Moravian Church in Altura. He is survived by his wife Alice, eight children; Janet Elizabeth (John) Majerus of Altura, Carolyn Sue Stark of St. Charles, Duane Curtis (Dawn) Stark of Herron, IL, Raymond John (Renee) Stark of Altura, Donna Kay (Donald) Pilla of White Bear Lake, Christine Connie Stark (Jeffery) VerMeer of Waverly, IA, Valerie Jean (Scott) Nation of Winona and Brenda Kay (Robert) Lockhart of Trempealeau, WI, 15 grandchildren, five great grandchildren and three brothers; Marvin (Beverly) Stark of Blooming Prairie, Gerald (Grace) Stark of Goodview and Curtis (Betty) Stark of Rollingstone. He was preceded in death by a brother Frank and two sisters Lois and Alice. Memorial services will be held at 11AM Wednesday at Our Savior Moravian Church in Altura with the Reverend David Sobek officiating. Burial of Connie's cremated body will follow in Hebron Moravian Cemetery. Friends may call from 9 Am until time of services at the church on Wednesday.
