Clyde W. Haedtke

Lewiston, Clyde W. Haedtke, 91, of Winona and formerly of Lewiston died Friday, July 24th at Lake Winona Manor. Clyde was born July 6, 1924 in Winona to William and Leonora (Weimer) Haedtke. He was raised on his family farm near Stockton and later north of Lewiston. Clyde was proud of his service in the U.S. Navy, having been stationed on the U.S.S Crenshaw in Okinawa, and played trumpet in the U.S. Navy Band. Following WWII, Clyde returned to Lewiston, where he was introduced to Marlis Hagedorn at a coffee shop in Lewiston. They were married on June 24, 1951 at St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Winona. He and Marlis were members of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lewiston, where he later served as chairman of the church council. Clyde enjoyed working with numbers and worked as a bookkeeper for Minnesota Butane and Lewiston Auto. In 1955, Clyde and Marlis purchased Community Lanes Bowling Alley and in 1959, an insurance business in Lewiston. In 1962 they built Cly-Mar Bowl and Zodiac Lounge in Lewiston. Clyde enjoyed talking insurance and operated Lewiston Insurance Agency until selling to his daughter Sue in 1987. He was a member of Lewiston American Legion and Lewiston Lions, having received the prestigious Melvin Jones Fellowship Award with the Lions. The biggest highlights of his recreation was attending his grandchildren's sporting events, bowling and playing cards with friends. He was also an avid Twins, Vikings, Yankee and Lakers fan. Clyde and Marlis also enjoyed many nice trips. He cherished traveling to Washington DC on the Honor Flight in October of 2008. Survivors include his two daughters; Joye (Rex) Hall of Altura and Sue (Ron) Kieffer of Lewiston; grandchildren, Brent (Suzie) Hall, Tara Burgess, Bryce (Yvette) Hall, Noelle (Eric) Bergan, Bradley Hammann, and Brandon Hammann; great-grandchildren, Elijah, Desi, Rinlee, Bryce, and Emmett; brother-in-law, Richard (Sue) Hagedorn; and sister-in-law, Joann Hagedorn. He was preceded in death by his wife Marlis on June 16, 2015, a brother Junior Haedtke and his parents. Funeral Services will be 11AM Thursday at St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lewiston with the Reverends Michael A. Lindemann and Paul Kuckhahn officiating. Burial will follow in St. John's Cemetery. Friends may call at the St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church from 4-7PM on Wednesday and 10 - 11 AM on Thursday. The Lewiston American Legion will conduct military graveside honors. The family prefers memorials be directed to St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, 180 Williams Street, Lewiston, MN 55952.
