RUSHFORDClayton Roelofs, age 91, of Rushford, MN died June 28, 2015 at Good Shepherd Home. He was born November 5, 1923 in rural Harmony, MN to George Delbert and Lizzie Mae (Heusinkveld) Roelofs where he joined siblings Margaret, Irene, Adelie, and Milton at home. He lived in Harmony graduating in 1943 from Harmony H.S. Clayton met Marlys McClary and they were married July 2, 1949. They lived in Houston in their early years and later moved to Rushford. He began work with Tri County Electric in Sept. 1944 working out of Harmony. Drafted into the Army, he served in WWII in Germany in the Army of the occupation. In 1951, he was severely injured in an electrical accident resulting in the loss of both arms. Through expert medical care at Mayo and Saint Mary's and with the support of Marlys and his family, he returned to work at Tri County Electric as a dispatcher until his retirement after 44 years of service.Clayt lived a life of service to family, church, community, and friends. Through the years he was active in many roles within the First Presbyterian Church. He served as President of the Community Chest, assisted with the building of the Creekside Playground, was Cub Scout Scoutmaster and volunteered at Good Shepherd. He always had a smile to offer to anyone who met him. He is preceded in death by his wife Marlys in 2010; parents, George and Lizzie; siblings, Margaret (Merlin) Scrabeck, Irene Roelofs, Adelie (Robert) Jackson, and Milton (Ruth) Roelofs.Clayton is survived by his son, Steven (Lisa) of Rochester and daughter, Rita (Paul) Iverson of New Milford, Connecticut; grandchildren, Chad (Sonthari Krouch) Roelofs, Matt (Michelle Zwiener) Roelofs, Anna (Jud) Turk, and Sam Iverson; step grandchildren, Kristina and Amy Miller; great grandchildren, Lia, Noah, Delilah, and Anakin Roelofs; step great grandchildren, Christian and Jazmin Miller; and many nieces and nephews.Services for Clayton will take place 11 a.m., Thursday July 2, 2015 at Hoff Funeral Home in Rushford with Pastor Allen Hanson officiating. Visitation will take place 4-7 p.m., Wednesday July 1, 2015 and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Clayton will be laid to rest at Oak Grove Cemetery in Rushford. Memorials are preferred to Good Shepherd Lutheran Home, First Presbyterian Church of Rushford.
