Clarence Rustad

RUSHFORD, MINN. - Clarence M. Rustad, 84, of Rushford, died Saturday, October 25, 2003, at Gundersen - Lutheran Medical Center in LaCrosse, Wis. Clarence was born on September 16, 1919, in Norway township of Fillmore County to Christian and Mina (Stensgard) Rustad. Clarence attended the Dolalie School in Bratsberg. On December 15, 1938 he married Helen Overby in Rushford. Clarence farmed at Highland Prairie until moving to Rushford in 1978. He also ran his own livestock equipment business from 1968 until 1984. Clarence was a lifelong member of the Highland Prairie Lutheran Church, where he was baptized and confirmed, and also served on the church board as well as many other church organizations. He served on the Norway township board and the Tri-County Coop board both for 21 years. Clarence was a member of the Rushford Community Clinic Board, the Heritage Club of the LaCrosse Lutheran Hospital Foundation, and was always actively involved in the community doing community projects. Clarence enjoyed caring for his flowers, spending time with family, visiting with friends, and thoroughly enjoyed his trips to Norway, and speaking Norwegian to the locals there. Clarence is survived by his wife, Helen, two sons: Curtis (Carol) Rustad of Winona and Maynard (Sharon) Rustad of Rushford; one daughter Judy (Ken) Klennert of Rochester; six grandchildren: Mia (Mike), Angela (Jim), Chanel (Eric), Brandon, Sara, and Stacy; three great-grandchildren: Maggie, Mason, and Noah; and one brother: Clifford Rustad of Rushford. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Lester and Raymond. The funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2003, at Highland Prairie Lutheran Church in rural Peterson, Minn. with the Rev. Wade Davick officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at Hoff Funeral Homes - Rushford Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Thursday at the church.
