Cindy Burt, 55 of Winona died peacefully at her home December 26, 2015 from stage IV breast cancer.Cindy was born July 10, 1960 in Portage, Wi. to Laverne and Sue Hawley of Pardeeville. Cindy spent her whole childhood in Pardeeville, Wi, graduating from Pardeeville High School in 1978. Cindy met the love of her life Matt Burt in 1979. She attended U.W. La Crosse graduating in 1982. Cindy and Matt where married on August 28, 1982 moving to Winona shortly after.Cindy attended Winona State University earning her Master's Degree in Counseling 1985. Cindy had a lifelong ambition to assist the elderly and was a determined advocate for the disabled working for Volunteer Services of Winona, as Assistant Senior Advocate at the Winona Senior Center and later as an Independent Living Skills Coordinator for the Southeastern MN Center for Independent Living. In 2003 Cindy joined SEMCAC to be the Nutrition Site Manager at Lewiston retiring in 2013.Cindy was a board member for the Community Education's C.O.M.P.A.S.S. Program, Homeshare, Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) committee, Advisory Council, and Access Advocacy Commission for the Southeastern Minnesota Center for Independent Living. Cindy was a member of the Swimming Pool Task Force for the Winona Aquatic Center project and the design of the Winona Middle School.Cindy was warmly welcomed at Grace Presbyterian Church and became an active for over two decades serving on several committees.Cindy did not hold back from enjoying life and did not let any presumption of a disability prevent her from seeing the world making a difference. Cindy and Matt traveled together on three continents visiting several different countries and Hawaii. One of her life long passions was to experience as many of the National Parks and Monuments throughout North America most notably celebrating her fiftieth birthday at Yosemite National Park. In the summer Cindy could be often found enjoying a good book out in the sunshine or traveling the warm waters of the Mississippi aboard her pontoon boat. Cindy also enjoyed spending time crafting with her friends.Cindy is survived by her husband, Matt; son Dimitri of Winona; her parents Laverne and Sue Hawley of Pardeeville, Wi; sister, Joanne Bender of Waunakee, Wi.; sister-in-law, Becky Burt; aunts, Glenda (Gordon) Sutfin; Sandra Hawley; uncle, Kim (Pam) Ades; niece, nephew and many cousins.Cindy was preceded in death by her grandparents, Margaret Ades, Glen and Violet Hawley, uncles; Kerry Ades and Eldon Hawley, her in-laws Lawrence and Pauline Burt.Memorial Service will be 1 p.m., Saturday, January 9, 2016 at Grace Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Jim Scaife officiating. Visitation will be 12 p.m., until the time of the service. Memorials are preferred to Winona Health Hospice or Grace Presbyterian Church.Hoff Celebration of Life Center - Goodview is assisting the family with arrangements.
