WINONAChauncey H. "Bud" Safranek, 90 of Winona died Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Sauer Health Care.Bud was born to Henry "Hank" and Emma (Gerson) Safranek on December 29, 1924 in Winona. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and on April 11, 1953 he married Margaret Jean Martin in Winona. He worked as a meat cutter and professional dog trainer for many years.Bud was an outdoors kind of man. He loved to hunt and fish any chance he had. Over the years he was able to hunt and fish all over the US, Canada, Mexico, Central America, and even had the opportunity to travel to Africa. In Winona, Bud was involved with many hunting and fishing organizations including the Winona Rod and Gun Club, Ducks Unlimited, Tri-State Hunting Dog Association, Wild Turkey Federation, in which he helped organize, and was the Winona Sportsman of the Year. He and his wife Jean also had a passion for dogs. Together they owned a kennel in Winona raising golden retrievers and poodles.Bud is survived by his wife, Jean of 62 years; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents; and sisters, Marge Lossen, Beverly Polichnowski, and Jeanette Hicks. Please share a memory of Bud and sign his online guestbook.
