Eyota, Charles Robert Nickelsen, 80, of Eyota died Friday August 10, 2007 at his home. He was born August 3, 1927 in Beaver to Ernest and Mary (Waby) Nickelsen and served in the Army from 1945-1947, stationed in Germany. He married LaVerne Brobst on November 21, 1949 in Eyota and have lived there since. He worked as a milk hauler for Eyota Creamery, drove school bus for the Eyota School and as a mechanic for Lovejoy service station in Eyota and Schultz Implement of Plainview. LaVerne died March 9, 2005. Charles belonged to Faith United Methodist Church in Eyota and to the Eyota American Legion. He enjoyed fishing, garage sales, playing cards and bingo. Survivors include six children; Roger (Janet) Nickelsen of Stewartville, Cheryl Nickelsen of Rochester, Cindy (Duane) Kahn of Minneiska, Ronald (friend Bonnie) of Valley City, ND, Pamela (Tim) Gordon of Eyota and Tamara (Paul) Ahlers of Lake City, 18 grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, one step great-grandchild, four brothers; Kenneth "Wally" (Esther) Nickelsen of Lake City, Clarence (Phyllis) Nickelsen of Yuma, AZ, James (Barb) Nickelsen of Homer, NY and LaVern (Peggy) Nickelsen of Athens, Georgia, three sisters; Marjorie (Eugene) Lamey of Kellogg, Barbara Jean (Ralph) Theuner of Kellogg and Sharon Kay (Allyn) Wachholz of Chatfield. In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by a son Robert, a great-grandson and two sisters. Funeral Services will be 1:30 PM Tuesday at Faith United Methodist Church in Eyota with Rev. Mark Woodward officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery at Eyota. Friends may call from 5-8 PM Monday at Hoff Funeral Home in St. Charles.
