Winona, Charles Edward "Charlie" Evenson, 82 of Winona died Monday, July 22nd at his home. Charlie was born April 10, 1931 in LaCrosse to Earl and Amy (Anderson) Evenson . Charlie grew up in Winona and served in the U. S. Army from 1951 - 52. He and Carol Ronnenberg were married May 10, 1952. He worked as a meat cutter at National T in Winona and in Menomonie, WI, Piggly Wiggly, Country Market and later Midtown Foods. In his work Charlie enjoyed visiting with his friends and customers, who relied on his advice as to their meat purchases. He had also driven school bus. He was an interesting man to many and could strike up a conversation at the drop of a hat. His friends knew him as 'rotten charlie' or 'tickle foot' Charlie enjoyed deer hunting, fishing and golfing. He was a competitive person, most especially in playing cards against Carol as well as when swapping fishing and deer hunting stories with family and friends. Survivors include his wife Carol, eight children; Cindy (Kevin) Brabbit of Winona, Debbie (Tim) Boyd of Winona, Gail Evenson of Winona, David (Heidi ) Evenson of Winona, Karen (Williams) of Coon Rapids, MN, Scott (Holly) Evenson of Des Moines, IA, Doug (Amy) Evenson of Princeton, IL and Brian (Christa) Evenson of Foley, MN, his grandchildren; Heather, Christian, Hans, Jens, Aixa, Cody, Spencer, Gitanja, Sean, Lindsay, Sarah, Mandy, Cole, Tyler, Alexis, Jordan, and Cameron, his great-granddaughter Caitlyn, his two brothers; Paul (Rita) of El Mirage, AZ and Jim (Kris) of Fort Collins, CO. He was preceded in death by his parents Earl and Amy, a brother Gary and his grandson Christian Lee Brabbit. Services to remember Charlie will be 11AM Friday at Central Lutheran Church with Pastor Beth Krolak officiating. A visitation with viewing will be from 5-8 PM Thursday at Hoff Celebration Center - Goodview/ Winona. Cremation will occur following visitation.
