Charles Laurel Egland, 95 of Houston passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at his home surround by his family. He was born September 5, 1921 to John and Ida (Carlson) Egland in Houston. He was baptized and confirmed at the Evangelical Free Church in Houston and attended Houston Public Schools. Charles entered the United States Army in 1943 and was stationed in the Pacific during WWII. He was honorably discharged in 1945. In 2012, he was honored to attend the Freedom Honor Flight.
Charles was united in marriage on September 5, 1942 to Stella Strinmoen. From this union, eight children were born. They farmed in the Houston, Spring Grove, Sheldon and Mound Prairie areas until settling at their current farm in Ridgeway for the last 51 years. Charles truly enjoyed going to farm auctions, watching the Minnesota Twins, Vikings and boxing and casino bus trips. His greatest pleasure in life was his grandchildren and the joy and laughter their visits brought to him.
Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Stella; children, Rebecca (Dan) Horarik of Laughlin, NV, Charles, Jr. (Jean) of Luverne, MN, Jeffrey of Clearwater, FL, Rod (Lou) of Winona, Lonnie of Winona, John of Rochester, Rocky of Winona and Sandy (Karl) Fenske of Winona; eight grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; five great-great grandchildren; one sister, Joye Fitting of Houston and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 10 siblings, Alma Larvik, Edwin, Elmer & Joel Egland, Gladys Boettcher, Viola Olsen, Ruby Hill, Mavis Pinska, Ilene Olsen and Marilyn Fitting.
Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Thursday, November 17, 2016 at Hoff Celebration of Life Center in Goodview. Visitation will be 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial will follow at Witoka Cemetery with full military honors performed by the VFW Post 1287.
