Carolyn Rose Frisch

Carolyn Rose Frisch died on Monday, March 21, 2005 at Alterra Sterling Home in Winona, where she has lived, was cared for, and loved by the staff for the past six years. Carolyn Rose Davidshofer was born at the crack of dawn on November 28, 1909 on the cold, windy plains of Marmarth, North Dakota to George and Josephine (Kukowski) Davidshofer who were homesteaders in Dakota Territory. The family came back to the Whitewater Valley area in Winona County when she was about three. She attended schools in Beaver, MN, Cathedral High School and Winona State College in Winona, MN. She taught in rural schools in Winona and Wabasha counties, as well as Holy Trinity School in Rollingstone and Altura Elementary. Carolyn was an Adult Leader for the Mount Vernon Beacons 4-H Club for 20 years and was named Winona County Outstanding Senior Citizen in 1984. She was a member of St. Anthony Parish in Altura. Carolyn was well-known and admired for her positive attitude, strong work ethic, deep faith, and the far-reaching effect she had on the lives of the thousands of students she taught. Her interests were reading, traveling, sewing, crocheting, and visiting with friends and family. She married Cleon Frisch on June 17, 1936 in Minneiska. They farmed many years in the Altura Oak Ridge area until his death in 1963. She is survived by daughters Rita (Bruce) Hartert, Spring Valley; Marie Nepper, Rochester, Carol (Norb) Budzinski, Penn Valley, CA, and Toni Ihrke of Golden Valley. Surviving sons are Donald (Mary) Frisch, Minnesota City, and Bernard (Gail Bradbury) Frisch of Winona. Her sister, Evabell Kramer of St. Charles and brother Allyn (Anita) Davidshofer of Cold Spring, MN also survive, as well as 25 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. Sons Robert and Richard, and daughter Mary Paula Sturgis preceded her in death, as well as her husband, parents, three brothers, two sisters, and two grandchildren.
