Carol Frances Hoffman, 88, formerly of Center City died Wednesday, January 3, 2024 at Carefree Living in Babbitt. Carol was born October 6, 1935 in Minneapolis to Sylvan and Ethel (Thorp) Askov. Her family moved to Delano, where she graduated from high school. Carol married Walter Hoffman September 6, 1957. They first made their home in Eagan then moved to Center City in 1976, where they lived for 30 years. They spent their retirement years in Texas, Arizona, and Wisconsin.
Carol received a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Hamline University in 1957. She went on to the University of Minnesota where she earned a Masters in Nursing in 1974 and a PhD in Family Social Sciences in 1992. Throughout her career Carol worked as a public health nurse, wound nurse, family social services provider, a family therapist, and taught nursing at Augsburg College. She was a member of the American Association of University Women.
Carol enjoyed their cabin at Hovland, treasuring her time on the North Shore. She also traveled across the United States and the world, with memorable trips to Mexico, Belgium, England, Taiwan, and Ukraine. Most of all, she loved visiting with her family and friends. She was humble, kind, and generous to all.
Survivors include Carol’s three children, LeeAnn Geshick (Mike Gauthier) of Ely, Brian (Nancy) Hoffman of St. Paul, and John (Annie) Hoffman of Taylors Falls, six grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Jane Eberhardt, and Alice Askov. She was preceded in death by her husband Walter in 2008, a brother Charles Askov, and a sister Mary Lambert.
