Carl Elmer Solie, 76 of Houston, died peacefully, Friday, April 1, 2011 at his home surrounded by his family.Carl was born February 11, 1935 in Spring Grove to Thomas and Pearl (Dahle) Solie. He graduated from Houston High School in 1952 and joined the United States Army, serving in Germany from 1955-1957. On November 23, 1957 he married Judy Erickson at Grace Lutheran Church in Peterson. He worked for Trane Company in La Crosse for 42 years and helped on the family farm his entire life. He was a lifetime member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church. Carl enjoyed fishing, hunting, lawn work and taking care of animals; was a hard worker his entire life and enjoyed every minute he spent with his grandchildren.He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Judy; children, Karen (Ronald) Wilke of La Crescent; Susan (Brian) Fiegen of Onalaska; Kristi (Kevin) Knutson of La Crescent; Jennifer (Randy) Bergman of Onalaska and Jon (Kendra) Solie of Zumbrota; grandchildren, Andrew, Adam and Alison Fiegen; Evan and Emilee Bergman; Paige and Morgan Solie; Laura and Carli Wilke and Katie and Kyle Knutson; siblings, Tom (Arliss) Solie of Fort Collins, CO; Lois Jorpeland of Brooklyn Center, MN; Dorothy (Wesley) VanGundy of Cedar Falls, IA and Howard (Lynette) Solie of Sheldon.He is preceded in death by his parents.Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Monday, April 4 at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with the Reverend Lane Zaffke officiating. Burial will follow at Stone Church Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-4 p.m., Sunday at Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service in Houston and one hour prior to the service at church.
