St. Charles, Bruce Nelson King, 62, of St. Charles died Sunday, October 4, 2009 at Seasons Hospice in Rochester. Bruce was born January 31, 1947 in Winona to Allan "Bud" and Phyllis Jean (Nelson) King. He was raised in Utica and graduated from St. Charles High School in 1964. In 1968 Bruce graduated from Winona State College. He then entered the Army, serving in Vietnam from 1968 - 71 in military intelligence. Bruce then returned to Utica to work for and later own King Lumber. On June 15, 2006 he married Kristi Swenson. She died September 25, 2007. Bruce was a life member of St. Charles American Legion and Veterans of Foreign War Posts and served in the military graveside honors group as a bugler. Bruce also belonged to St. Charles Moose Lodge, past master of Evergreen Masonic Lodge in Clyde, Scottish Rite, Disabled American Veterans, was on the Oakwood Cemetery Board, Utica City Council and was a substitute mail carrier. Bruce enjoyed golfing and had a great love of history. Survivors include his two children; Justin (Nancy) King of Richfield and Danica (Eric) King of Seattle, WA, four step-grandchildren, a brother Allan King, Jr. of Rochester, a sister, Cheryl (Warren) Baker of Vista, CA. He was preceded in death by his wife Kristi and his parents.A time of sharing celebrating Bruce's life will be 3 PM Sunday St. Charles Moose Lodge with Pastor Heather Klason of the St. Charles United Methodist Church officiating. . The St. Charles American Legion and Veterans of War Posts will conduct military honors following services. Burial of Bruce's cremated body will be at Fort Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis at a later date. Memorials are preferred to St. Charles Moose Lodge and the Veterans Honors Flight.Hoff Funeral Home of St. Charles is assisting the family with arrangements.
