WINONABruce L. Carpenter, 87, of Winona died Tuesday, October 20, 2015 at Lake Winona Manor.Bruce was born April 24, 1928 to Ray and Alice (Broring) Carpenter in Nodine, MN. Bruce was a business man and over the years, he owned and operated several companies, including Carpenter Trucking and Carpenter Ready Mix. He was also co-owner of Modern Concrete Inc., Winona Rock Products, Winona Concrete and Caledonia Ready Mix. He was a member of St. Martin's Lutheran Church in Winona.Bruce's love of horses began at an early age sitting in the school house with his attention outside watching the farmers working their horses in the field. He knew every horse, by its name, and who it belonged to. This interest continued until his death. He enjoyed making friends and helping young people get started raising their horses. For many years he raised Belgians. Bruce also supported the Pickwick Mill, Pickwick Fire Department, and area 4H clubs. Bruce was known to be a kind, caring, generous, and an honest man who will be dearly missed. Bruce is survived by Norma Keller of Winona; sisters, Donnis (Donald) Buchan of La Crescent, MN and Connie (Joe) Duff of Winona; nieces, Beki Blank, Debi Wagner, Carol Howard; Nephews, Doug (Sue) Benter, Bob Benter, and Robb Duff; five step-children, step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and great nieces and nephews.He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Darlene Benter; brother-in-law, Kenneth Benter; step-son, Bill Worner; and great-nephew, Blake Eckert.Memorials are preferred to donor's choice.Services will be held 12:30 p.m., Saturday, October 24, 2015 at Hoff Celebration of Life Center in Goodview with the Reverend Richard Moore officiating. Visitation will take place two hours prior to the service at the funeral home. Bruce will be laid to rest at St. Mary's Cemetery in Winona.
