Bobbie Phillips, 75, of Altura, died Thursday, January 5, 2012 at his home surrounded by loving family.The youngest son of 10 children, Bobbie was born on January 27, 1936 in Soldiers Grove, WI to Glen and Nell (Wanless) Phillips. When he was 18 years old, Bobbie was introduced to Joyce Stoikes. The couple was united in marriage on June 24, 1955 in Soldiers Grove. Shortly after their marriage, Bobbie and Joyce relocated Altura. There, Bobbie farmed for 18 years. He worked at the turkey plant for ten years as a shipping supervisor. He was also a school bus driver and janitor at the elementary school in Altura for 26 years until his ailing health caused him to retire in January 2010. Bobbie and Joyce enjoyed square dancing, planning spontaneous trips together, and watching horse pulls. He was very proud of his flower garden and abundant tomato plants.Bobbie and Joyce have been members at Our Savior Moravian Church in Altura since 1963. He was always willing to help wash dishes or wrap silverware for the church's fundraising dinners. Since 1988, Bobbie has been assistant leader with Altura Boy Scouts Troop 18 and went on many camping trips with them. Bobbie is survived by his wife of 56 years, Joyce Phillips; children, Karen (Dan) Plank, Dwight (Debbie) Phillips, Carol (Lee) Persons, Susan (Kevin) Ellinghuysen, and Steven Phillips; 17 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; 3 sisters, Vivian (Donald) Townsend, twin Betty (William) Crook, and Gloria Glass; brothers-in-law, Mike (Judy) Stoikes and Paul (Conny) Stoikes; many nieces, nephews, and friends. He is preceded in death by 4 brothers, Keith, Glen Jr., Dale, and Ross Phillips; 2 sisters, Garnet Davenport and Maxine Olson.Visitation will be held from 4-8pm on Monday, January 9, 2012 at Our Savior Moravian Church in Altura with Reverend David Sobeck officiating. Funeral service will be at 1pm on Tuesday, January 10, 2012 at church with visitation one hour prior.
