Bob Kalmes

St. Charles, Robert H. "Bob" Kalmes, 84, of St. Charles died Friday at Whitewater Healthcare Center in St. Charles. Bob was born November 15, 1919 in Washington D.C. to Henry and Helen (Johns) Kalmes. He graduated from Lewiston High School. Bob and Rhoda Brown were married on May 20, 1943 in Omaha, NE. He worked various jobs before working at IBM in assembly. He retired from IBM in 1983 after 25 years there. Bob was member of St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church, was a volunteer firefighter in St. Charles for 20 years and was a member of the Moose Lodge. Survivors include his wife Rhoda, a daughter Helen Kalmes of Rochester, two sisters Alice Gerard of Fridley and Mary Kalmes of Grand Junction, CO. A daughter Carol preceded him in death in July of 1971. There will be a Funeral Mass 10:30 AM Tuesday at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church with the Rev. James Callahan officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Oak Ridge. Friends may call at Hoff Funeral Home's ? St. Charles Chapel from 4-8 PM Monday and 9-10 AM Tuesday. There will be a Rosary recited 4:30 PM and a Prayer Service at 7:30 PM Monday at the funeral home. The family prefers memorials to a charity of the donors' choice in lieu of flowers.
