Betty P. Vining

HOUSTON, MINN. - Betty P. Vining, 82, formerly of Houston and Belle Plaine, Minn. died Tuesday, March 28, 2006, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford, Minn. Betty was born on April 3, 1923, in Rushford to Edwin and Ida (Jensen) Peterson. She was raised in Rushford, Minn., and graduated from Rushford High School. She served in the U.S. Marines during WWII, where she worked as an aviation mechanic. On June 30, 1945, she married Arthur Vining of Abington, Mass. in Beaufort, South Carolina. Betty and Arthur then moved back to Minnesota where they farmed on what is now know as Whispering Hills Scout Camp at Bridge Creek. In 1966 they moved to Houston. They farmed there until 1983. Betty later moved back and forth between Houston and Florida until moving to Belle Plaine, Minn. in 1995. She lived in Belle Plaine until 2000, when she moved to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford. She was a member of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston, Minn. Betty is survived by three children: Patricia (Larry) Schmidt of Peterson, Minn., Peter Vining of Boca Raton, Fla., and Teresa (Jan Bremseth) Vining of Belle Plaine, Minn.; five grandchildren: Thomas, Amy, Justin, Samuel, and Ryan; four great-grandchildren: Kayla, Kori, T.J., and Krista; two sisters-in law: Arlys Peterson of Rushford, and Lillian Fuller of Weymouth, Mass. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, one daughter, Anne, and one brother, John. There will be a memorial service for Betty at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 1, at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church in Houston with the Rev. Louise Stromberg officiating. Burial will be in the Rushford Lutheran Cemetery in Rushford. There will be Military Honors by the Arnet - Sheldon American Legion Post of Houston.
