Betty Gatzlaff was called to her heavenly home on October 10th at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, MN.
The funeral for Betty Ione Gatzlaff will be at 2:00 pm Saturday, October 13th at Jehovah Evangelical Lutheran Church in Altura, with Pastors Michael Lindemann and Paul Kuckhahn officiating. Visitation will be 1 hour prior to the service with interment in the church cemetery following the service.
Betty was born March 1, 1923 in Altura to Ben and Vera Stanz. On March 17, 1945 she married John Gatzlaff. They made their home in Altura for the next 60 years. Shorewood Senior Campus in Rochester was her home for the last 13 years.
Betty and John, along with Johns brother Kermit and his Betty, operated the Altura Hardware until John retired in 1986. She enjoyed working at Watkins in Winona and the Turkey processing plant in Altura. Her greatest enjoyments included her family, serving in her church, and socializing with her Altura friends; bridge, golf, shopping, and a glass of wine. Her loves included Christmas, chocolate, and the VIKES - SKOL! She will be remembered by her friends as having a cheery disposition and a smile that warmed their hearts.
Betty is survived by five children, Renee (Jim) Christie of Altura, LuAnn (Gerald) Lancette of Hudson, WI, Jay (Diane) of Rochester, Laurie (Dan) Geiger of Eugene, OR, and Brad (Mary Madison) of Northfield; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and sisters.
Memorials will be directed to St. Judes Childrens Hospital.
