Bette Sue Smith

St. Charles, Bette Sue Smith, 82, of St. Charles died Friday, September 25, 2009 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Bette was born July 19, 1927 in Rochester to Fred and Willie (Garrison) Wilson. Her family then moved to St. Charles where Bette graduated from St. Charles High School in 1945. She and Irv Smith were married July 30, 1947 at St. Charles United Church of Christ. Bette was an active mother and homemaker. She loved the outdoors; traveling with her family as they fished and camped. Bette was also an avid bowler and golfer. She enjoyed going to many ballgames to cheer for her children and grandchildren. Bette belonged to the American Legion Auxiliary, Veterans of Foreign War Auxiliary, The Sunshine Chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star and the United Church of Christ all of St. Charles. Survivors include her husband Irv, three children; Scott (Judy) Smith of St. Charles, Sheri (Butch) Hemmelman of Winona and Rollie Smith of St. Charles, six grandchildren; Dan (Kristen), Lee and Chuck Smith, Staci (Steve) Gricius Holly (Jeff) Gagen and Barb (Jack) Schwab, ten great-grandchildren; Derek, Michael and Kalley Schwab, Madison and Aislin Gagen, Aliya and Sophia Gricius, Kasey and Nick Smith and Chase Sithisane. She is also survived by her brother Joe Wilson of Bloomington. Bette was preceded in death by her four sisters and two brothers. Funeral Services will be 10AM Monday at Hoff Funeral Home in St. Charles with Jason Chamberlain of St. Charles United Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
