HOFF FUNERAL HOMES - RUSHFORD CHAPEL 507-864-7771 RUSHFORD, MINN. - Bette June Evenson, 68, of Rushford died on Sunday, November 22, 2009, at Community Memorial Hospital in Winona, Minn. Bette was born on June 7, 1941, in Rockford, Iowa, to Otto and Fannie (Dannen) Marquardt. She was raised in Swaledale, Iowa until age 13 when she moved with her family to Zumbrota, Minn. On October 17, 1958, she married Merle Evenson in Zumbrota. The couple lived in Kenosha, Wis. for five years and moved to Rushford in 1964. Merle and Bette farmed together for many years. Bette also worked at Camera Art in Lewiston, Minn. for 15 years. She was a very active member of Rushford Lutheran Church. She served on the church council and circle. Bette was also active in Operation Christmas Child and Relay for Life. Family was the centerpiece of her life, especially her grandchildren. She enjoyed following her children and grandchildren in their sports activities. Bette's other interests included quilting, baking, crocheting, and 4-H. She is survived by her husband, Merle; son, Gary (Diane) Evenson of Bethel, Minn.; daughter, June (Nathan) Vitse of Rushford, Minn.; five grandchildren: Erika, Jessica, Jordan, Joseph, and Bailey; one great-granddaughter, Evalyn; one brother, Jerry Marquardt of Glenville, Minn.; and two sisters: Helen (George) Feil and Rosella (Larry) Staub, both of Zumbrota, Minn. Bette was preceded in death by her parents, and one brother, Bill. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, November 25, at Rushford Lutheran Church with the Rev. Roger Michaelson officiating. Burial will be in the Rushford Lutheran Cemetery. Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, at Hoff Funeral Homes - Rushford Chapel and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday at the church.
