Thompson, 82, of Rushford placed her hand in God's hand on August 8, 2013, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home in Rushford. Bette was born on July 15, 1931, in La Crosse, Wis. To Floyd and Clara (Fossum) Torgerud. She was raised in Rushford, attended Rushford High School and graduated from Winona Senior High School. On December 4, 1948, Bette was united in marriage with Herbert Thompson at the Rushford Lutheran Parsonage in Rushford. While raising her children, Bette worked at the Rushford Bakery. She later attended Winona Vocational School and then worked for 15 years as a secretary at Ace Telephone Association. Due to an accident in 1982, Bette became disabled, and was no longer able to work. She was a member of Rushford Lutheran Church. In her spare time, Bette enjoyed playing whist, sewing, cross-stitch, puzzle books, reading and spending time with her family. Bette is survived by her husband, Herbert; two children: Mary (James) Woll of Clinton, Iowa and Mark (Susan) Thompson of Plymouth, Minn.; four grandchildren: Kristin (Keith) Hartgrave, Angela Woll, Dain (Aila) Thompson and Tess Thompson; three great-grandchildren: Meghan, Kaitlyn and Allyson; and by two siblings: Mae Forstrom of Willmar, Minn., and Gordon (Eileen) Torgerud of Delano, Minn. Bette was preceded in death by her parents and a grandson, Blake Thompson.The family prefers memorials to the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home or to Rushford Lutheran Church. There will be a memorial service for Bette at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, August 12, at Rushford Lutheran Church with the Rev. Roger Michaelson officiating. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. on Sunday at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service in Rushford. Burial will take place at the Rushford Lutheran Cemetery at a later date.
