Berton Paulson, 84 of Houston, died Monday, July 19, 2010 at Valley View Healthcare and Rehab, where he had resided since April 2008.Berton was born May 23, 1926 in Yucatan Township to Edwin and Cora (Wold) Paulson. Berton started farming at an early age after the passing of his father. He worked on Bridge Creek area farms until he went into the service with the Army Aircraft Control and Warning Squadron from 1945 to 1947. On August 13, 1949 he married Ioen Thompson. Berton and Ioen then started farming together and continued to do so for the next 50 plus years in the Houston area. Berton is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ioen; their four children, Cathy (Richard) Stutzka, Kevin (Rosie), Jim (Lori) and Patty Paulson; eight grandchildren, Chad Stutzka, Joleen (Tony) Stamer, Darin Paulson, Andrew Stutzka, Corey Stutzka, Mickayla Paulson, Morgan Shuda, Garrett Paulson; ten great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.He was preceded in death by his parents; one infant son; one brother; and six sisters.Berton was a lifetime member of Looney Valley Lutheran Church. He enjoyed playing cards, drinking coffee and talking farming, sometimes twice a day at the local restaurants, especially Benson's Café. He and Ioen did much dancing and traveling together. Berton had a genuine love for life, family and farming.A Memorial Service to celebrate his life will be 11 a.m., Thursday, July 22 at Looney Valley Lutheran Church in rural Houston. Burial will follow in Silver Creek Cemetery. Friends may call 5-7 p.m., Wednesday at Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service in Houston and one hour prior to the service on Thursday.
