Berniece Mae Spitzer

Berniece M. Spitzer, 96, of St. Charles, died Monday, June 21, 2010 at Chosen Valley Care Center in Chatfield, MN. Berniece was born on November 9, 1913 in Perry, Iowa to Ernest and Edna (Luloff) Krueger. She grew up on a farm outside of Chatfield, MN. On June 1, 1935 she married Walter Spitzer in St. Charles. They farmed near Viola for 10 years and then in rural Chatfield before returning to the St. Charles area. Berniece had a green thumb and could grow anything. You could tell by her inside plants, garden and outside flowers. Her true passion was crocheting. Berniece loved life, which showed in her love for singing. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a homemaker and worked at Home Produce and North Star Foods in St. Charles for many years. She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in St. Charles.She is survived by her children, Dianne (William) Halling of Edina, Sharon (Glen) Mason of Winona and John (Lynette) Spitzer of St. Charles; 7 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren and one on the way and one sister Alice of Austin. She is preceded in death by her husband, Walter and an infant daughter, three sisters and two brothers.Funeral Services will be 3PM Friday at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service in St. Charles with The Reverend Michael Hart officiating. Burial will follow at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Viola. Friends may call from 2PM until time of services at the funeral home on Friday.
