Bernice M. Hansen, 81, of St. Charles, died Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester. Bernice was born September 17, 1928 in St. Charles to Guy and Henrietta (Simon) Conway. She grew up in St. Charles and graduated from St. Charles School District in 1946, attended Mankato Cosmetology School in Mankato and graduated in 1947. Following graduation she worked for Avis Beauty Shoppe in St. Charles. On September 14, 1947 she married Lawrence (Larry) A. Hansen in St. Charles. She was a Customer Rep for Peoples Natural Gas in St. Charles and Chatfield and also worked for Sellner and Hoff Funeral Homes. As a member of St. Charles United Church of Christ, Bernice taught Sunday school and served several terms as a member of the Board of Directors, serving as their secretary and financial secretary and also serving as a Church Deacon. She was a member of the Rochester Area Ostomy Group. Bernice served several years on the Winona County Board of Health and also on the advisory committee to the County Health Task Force. She was a lifetime church choir member and also sang for many funerals. She is a member of the Rochester Duplicate Bridge Group and played contract bridge with various groups. Flowers inside and out were a part of her décor. She loved to cook and bake and there was always room for extra at her table. Family and friends were always a priority and she enjoyed making needle point pictures and collecting music boxes.She is survived by her children, Stephan of St. Charles, Lynette (John) Spitzer of St. Charles and Julie (Tom) Herrmann of Plainview; grandchildren, Lukas Herrmann, Arich Herrmann, Cory Spitzer, Angel (Brett) Zemlicka, Guy (Brenda) Hansen, Kim (Pat) Nesler; and 8 great-grand children.She is preceded in death by her husband, Larry; parents; siblings, Kenneth Conway and Violet Conway Hart.Funeral Service will be 11 a.m., Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Hoff Funeral & Cremation Service -St. Charles. Friends may call 5 - 8 p.m., Friday at Hoff Funeral Home and also one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery with a luncheon immediately following.
