Bernice Helen Grindland, of Winona, passed away Thursday, April 4, 2019 in her 93rd year, in the warm and loving company of her family. She was born in Winona on August 20, 1925 and married Arthur Clifford Grindland on August 9, 1946. A lifelong resident of Winona, Bernice had an eye for fashion. Fresh out of high school she launched a career that spanned decades in women's fashion cumulating with her owning her own business, Bernice's Fashions. In like kind, her presence was felt at Central Lutheran Church, teaching Sunday School and participating in women's bible groups.
Social to her core, Bernice and Art "cut a rug" at ballrooms throughout the region making dinner and dance the weekend staple. In later years, with the freedom of retirement, the couple traveled rather extensively and wintered in Texas. Simply put, Bernice was a fine woman who lived a wonderful life and shall be missed by all.
She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Arthur; Children, John (Rebecca) Grindland, Hastings, MN, Judith (Stephen) Boeser, Elko, MN, Thomas (Cheryl) Grindland, Savage, MN, and Rebecca (Denny) McGann; Winona, MN, 8 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Irene Stopyro Rochester, MN. She is preceded in death by her parents John and Stefa Cierzan; and her brother and sister in law John (Doris) Cierzan.
A memorial Service will be at 11 a.m., Friday, April 12, 2019 at Central Lutheran Church with the Rev. Michael Short and Rev. Wade Davick officiating.
