Bernard Wegman

January 1, 1900 — February 1, 2012

The funeral for Bernard Wegman, 85 of Dover, MN will be held at 11:00 am Tuesday, February 7, 2012 at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church. Bernard, beloved husband, dad, grandpa, great-grandpa and brother died February 1, 2012 at his rural Dover home, where he had lived most of his adult life. Born February 18, 1926 to Louis and Leona (Majerus) Wegman, Bernard shared his early life with his parents and siblings, Margie Guenther (deceased), Lorraine Bonine, Leora Delaney, Florence Smith, Rosemary Hemann, Dorothy Wagner, Donald, Marvin, and Regina Anderson. He married his sweetheart Mary Janet Mueller on June 5, 1948. Bernard and Mary spent more than 63 years together as a couple through good times and bad. They were blessed with 15 children, 40 grandchildren and 38 great grandchildren. Bernard's life was defined by his faith, family and farming. The roots his forefathers planted in the Dover area remained a part of his life up to the present. The farm he owned and operated north of Dover has been in the family for more than 150 years. Farming at a time when farms were diversified, animals and tractors were a part of his everyday life. Bernard rejoiced the day his beloved red tractors replaced the last team of horses. St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church was an integral part of Bernard's spiritual journey. He remained a member of the church his forefathers helped found and where he was baptized. Bernard served the church in various capacities, but most importantly he led by example through his faithful attendance at weekly mass. Bernard is survived by his wife Mary Janet and children Wayne (Jo-Ann), Theresa Root (Harry), Mary Nicklay (Pat), Barb Jensen (Arnie), Jim, Carol Bryant (Tom), Linda Loring (Ken), Donna McCann (Mike), Leo, Gloria Ergle (Don), Louis (Shelly), Mark (Dawn), Brian (Melissa), Joyce Nesler (Mike), and David (Paula). The family would like to thank Father Kurt Farrell, Dr. Jason Post and Seasons Hospice in assisting the family in granting Bernard his final wishes. He died at home in the care of his family, having attended his final mass before he danced his way into heaven. Visitation will be held Monday February 6, 2012 from 4pm to 8pm at St. Charles Borromeo Catholic Church and one hour prior to the service. A rosary will be said at 7:30 pm.
