Berdine J. Highum

PETERSON, MINN. - Berdine Judith Anna Highum, 94, of Peterson, Minn. died on Friday, June 13, 2008 at the Valley View Care and Rehab. Center in Houston, Minn. Berdine was born on August 8, 1913, on the family farm near Peterson, to John and Bertha (Hermanson) Olness. She married Hubert "Hub" Highum on August 8, 1937. She lived in the Peterson area all of her life. She was a member of North Prairie Lutheran Church, as well as the church circle, choir, quartet, and quilting group. She worked at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Home until her retirement in 1978. She enjoyed crocheting, needlework, and traveling. Berdine is survived by two sisters: Olive Peterson and Evelyn (Ron ) Bremseth, both of Rushford; two sons: Keith of Mexico and Wayne (Neta) of Peterson; one granddaughter, Lee Raine (Justin) Randall of Adel, Iowa; two grandsons: Bret (Allison) Highum of Lennox, South Dakota and Jess Highum of Glenrock, Wyoming; and five great-grandchildren: Julian and Erick Randall, and Cailey, Dani, and Eli Highum. She was preceded in death by her husband, Hub on Nov. 11, 1990, and four brothers; Manvel, Joe, Conrad, and Maynard Olness. The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 21, at North Prairie Lutheran Church with the Rev. Roger Michaelson officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Friends may call one hour prior to the service at the church. In Lieu of flowers the family prefers memorials to be directed to the North Prairie Lutheran Church or to Lutheran Disaster Response for the Iowa flood victims.
