St. Charles, Beatrice Elizabeth "Bea" Papenfus, 91, of St. Charles died Wednesday morning, August 27th at Golden Living Center in St. Charles. Beatrice "Bea" was born December 9, 1922 at St. Charles to Robert Henry and Mary (Weigel) Patterson and graduated from St. Charles High School. Bea and Elmer Papenfus were married September 26, 1944 in St. Charles. The couple farmed south of St. Charles. Bea belonged to the St. Charles United Methodist Church, was a former member of the Ridge Homemakers, and served as Secretary/ Treasurer of the St. Charles Feed Mill for 8 years. Before marriage Bea worked at the St. Charles School office and for Montgomery Wards office in Winona. She enjoyed working in her flower garden and with her house plants. Bea enjoyed the many hours working along side Elmer as she drove tractor on the farm. She was an excellent cook and enjoyed trying new recipes. Bea was a caring and compassionate person, who always made people feel welcome in her home with her home made goodies. Survivors include her husband of 69 years, Elmer, a sister Bernice Richter of Rochester, three nephews, and numerous nephews and nieces on Elmer's side. Services to remember Bea will be 11 AM Saturday at Hoff Funeral and Cremation Service in St. Charles, with the Reverend Ron Prigge officiating. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery. Friends may call from 9AM until time of services on Saturday at the funeral home. A reception at the funeral home will follow services.
