WINONA AND FORMERLY FROM NEBRASKABarry Duane Young, 70 of Winona and formerly from Nebraska, died unexpectedly Tuesday, October 8, 2013 at his home.Barry, an only child, was born August 12, 1943 in Litchfield, NE to Robert and Elaine (Sigler) Young. He was raised in Ansley, NE and graduated from high school in 1961. He enlisted in the United States Air Force on January 18, 1963 and was stationed in New Mexico, where he was present during underground nuclear testing. In October 1968, three months after being honorably discharged from the Air Force reserves, Barry was introduced to Sherry Breedlove in a college Chemistry course in Taft, CA. They were married four short months later on February 2, 1968 in Las Vegas. They moved to San Jose following their marriage. In 1975, Barry and Sherry returned to Nebraska where they owned and operated Young's Café. They returned to California in 1978 and moved to Prairie du Chien in 1995 before finally settling in Winona in 1998. He retired from Benchmark Electronics three years ago. Although he was a quiet, reserved man, Barry stayed active in various men's groups at Wesley United Methodist Church in Winona and also sang with the Barbershoppers. He loved channel surfing and nibbling on sweets.Barry is survived by his wife of over 45 years, Sherry Young; sons, Kenneth (Shelley) of Anderson, CA and Robert (Amy) of Lawrenceburg, TN; 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brother-in-law, Paul (Patricia) Breedlove of Oakhurst, NJ; and numerous cousins, aunts, uncles, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.Memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 12, 2013 at Wesley United Methodist Church with visitation one hour prior. Pastor Justin Halbersma will officiate.
